Authorities said the driver was killed when the semi-truck, which was on Highway 522 heading to southbound Interstate 405, went off the ramp and landed on the roadway below.
A 65-year-old man was killed in a crash Friday night when the semi-truck he was driving crashed near Bothell.
Alan L. Mooney died at the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol. As he headed north on Interstate 405 to westbound Highway 522, his semi-truck struck a cement barrier and went off a ramp.
The truck’s cab detached from the trailer and fell onto Interstate 405, damaging five vehicles, according to the State Patrol. No other injuries were reported. Mooney’s trailer ended up clogging all northbound lanes of Highway 522 and partially blocking southbound lanes.
Authorities closed a stretch of the highway in both directions around 9:30 p.m. to investigate. About eight hours later, the road reopened.
The accident’s cause is under investigation.
