The Maple Valley Highway (169) was closed in both directions at Jones Road for several hours Tuesday morning after a deadly collision involving a car and a King County Metro bus.

The accident occurred around 4 a.m. and the Washington State Patrol and medic crews responded to the scene. The 35-year-old Maple Valley man driving of the car was killed, according to reports from Trooper Chris Webb.

The man was driving northbound on Highway 169 between Maple Valley and Renton when he veered left and collided with the bus heading in the opposite direction, Webb said.

The bus was empty and the bus driver suffered only minor injuries, Webb said.

The highway reopened at about 9:30 a.m.
