Early morning repairs to an expansion joint on southbound I-405 near Highway 169 caused a backup that reached 8 miles at one point, according to the Department of Transportation.
At 7:45 a.m., traffic was mostly back to normal levels with the Bellevue-to-Renton trip taking 25 minutes, WSDOT tweeted.
The emergency repair work began around 6 a.m., but the cold temperatures slowed down the curing process of the repair material. All lanes were reopened at about 7 :15 a.m.
