Warehouse workers and drivers went back on strike in Auburn against United Natural Foods Thursday night after company officials told union members that 72 of 163 striking workers would be permanently replaced, according to a news release from Teamsters Local 117.

Union members struck the natural food distributors’ warehouse Monday saying the company had engaged in unfair labor practices. The union said its members would go back to work on Thursday, and union officials said they made a good-faith offer to return to work.

But when striking workers tried to go back, they were told many would be replaced, said Paul Zilly, Local 117 spokesman.

The union filed new unfair labor practice with the National Labor Relations Board Thursday over the permanent-replacement issue. The NLRB is currently investigating United Natural Foods for 45 additional violations of federal labor law, according to the union.
