Firefighters responded to Green River College in Auburn for reports of a suspicious substance Monday morning, but authorities later determined the material was talcum powder.

A school administrator made the initial report before 11:30 a.m., and around the same time, the building where the substance was found was evacuated, according to Valley Regional Fire Authority spokeswoman Kelly Williams.

Authorities said the unknown substance was talcum powder, she said. The building reopened around 2 p.m.

A hazardous-materials team from the Kent Fire Department also responded.
