Sketched June 16, 2016

With thousands of people descending on Fremont for this weekend’s Solstice festivities, I thought I’d draw attention to one of the neighborhood’s attractions: The five-story rocket that has been at the corner of Evanston Avenue North and North 35th Street since 1994.

The whimsical spaceship, a piece of fuselage repurposed from a military aircraft, is a fitting landmark for a community that prides itself in being the Center of Universe.

It also comes with a mission statement I wholeheartedly believe in: De Libertas Quirkas — Freedom to Be Peculiar.
