King County emergency crews are responding to a small plane crash near North Bend.

Sherriff’s Sgt. Cindi West says the plane crashed before 3 a.m. Wednesday on the Little Si section of Mount Si. It’s a 4,200-foot peak about 30 miles east of Seattle.

West says residents reported hearing a plane sputtering and an explosion. She says two deputies who were on a call in the area also heard the impact.

The sheriff’s helicopter found the wreckage on a mountain face. She says the copter was attempting to lower a rescuer to the scene but it was difficult in cold and foggy conditions. A ground team is also on the way to the scene.
