HUNTERS, Wash. (AP) — Officials in eastern Washington state say a Stevens County deputy responding to a domestic dispute shot and killed a man after the man produced a firearm.

Officials in a statement say the shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Hunters.

Police say the man had a felony warrant for his arrest and was believed to be armed with a firearm.

Police say he initially fled on foot but deputies located him and an altercation ensued. Police say one deputy fired his weapon when the man produced the firearm.

Spokane police spokeswoman Teresa Fuller says life saving measures failed and the man died.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.

The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team is investigating.
