A Portland man made his initial appearance in a federal courtroom there today on charges of transporting a 16-year-old Seattle girl to Oregon with the intent of engaging her in prostitution.

Donnico T. Johnson, 37, is charged with sex trafficking, transportation of a minor and coercion and enticement of the girl. A federal grand jury last week issued an indictment charging Johnson and a co-defendant, Lisa Miles, 30, who were arrested June 18 in Portland. Johnson and Miles are in custody pending trial, set for Aug. 11.

Federal prosecutors say Johnson knew the girl was a juvenile. Miles was arraigned last Friday and held in custody pending trial.

If convicted, Johnson and Miles could get 10 years to life in prison.
