Cold weather and burst pipes caused several schools across the Puget Sound region to close Tuesday as frigid temperatures lingered.
Several schools are closed in the Seattle, Lake Washington, Northshore, Issaquah, Edmonds, Shoreline and Lake Stevens school districts. In each case, individual schools are closed, with the rest of the schools in the district operating normally.
While temperatures are expected to tick up in the region starting Tuesday, the National Weather Service is predicting the possibility of freezing rain, complicating the afternoon commute. Weather service officials say afternoon and evening travel could be more difficult on interstates 5, 90 and 405, and highways 101 and 18.
Here are the schools closed in each district:
- Seattle: Madison Middle School (remote learning on a two-hour delayed start)
- Lake Washington: Dickson and Wilder elementary schools
- Northshore: Kokanee and Woodmoor elementary schools (kindergarten classes also canceled for Crystal Springs Elementary School)
- Issaquah: Cedar Trails and Newcastle elementary schools
- Edmonds: Meadowdale Elementary School (closed Tuesday and Wednesday)
- Shoreline: Briarcrest (at North City building) and Meridian Park elementary schools
- Lake Stevens: Glenwood and Skyline elementary schools
