Seattle police arrested an 18-year-old man and recovered about 50 grams of a substance they believe to be crack cocaine Tuesday in the 1500 block of Second Avenue.

The incident occurred around 12:41 a.m., when an officer on patrol noticed about a dozen people crowded around the doorway of a closed restaurant. The officer thought it looked like a drug deal. As he got out of his car, the suspects scattered.

The officer ordered the man who appeared to be the “dealer” to stop; instead, the man broke into a sprint down Second Avenue and tried to go into the bus tunnel. The officer caught him, and also recovered a plastic bag that the man had thrown away during the chase.

The substance tested positive for crack cocaine in a field test. The man was booked into King County Jail for the narcotics violation.
