Prompted by the first concerts of the Seattle Symphony's season, Seattle Sketcher brought out some previously unpublished drawings inspired by local musicians.
The Seattle Symphony kicked off its season last Saturday, and that reminded me of these unpublished sketches. I made them back in June, when I met retiring bassist Nancy Page Griffin during a routine rehearsal at Benaroya Hall.
Those are not the only music sketches left behind in my drawers. Last spring at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, I made some lines on my trusty pocket sketchbook during a performance by the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra. Though I liked how the lines looked by themselves, I couldn’t resist adding some color later. The jazz ensemble’s first performance this season is coming up Oct. 3. Here’s their concert schedule.

Although the season is just beginning, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start looking at the calendar and plan to go to some concerts. My kids are learning to play instruments now. What could be more inspiring than listening to the pros in action?
