Southbound Highway 99 between Valley and Roy streets has reopened after a two-hour closure while firefighters responded to a roof fire at an apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.
The Seattle Department of Transportation advised drivers to avoid southbound Highway 99 Wednesday evening. The backup at 7 p.m. extended to the Aurora Bridge.
Transit users should expect delays, according to King County Metro Transit.
Units were at the eight-story structure in the 700 block of Sixth Avenue North, according to the Seattle Fire Department. The fire, which was reported around 5:15 p.m., burned a 5-by-20 foot section of the rooftop deck.
All residents evacuated the building and there were no injuries, the fire department said. Firefighters used high-powered fans to ventilate carbon monoxide from complex.
The fire was caused by an improperly discarded cigarette and caused $10,000 worth of damage, the fire department said Wednesday night
