With his opponent conceding Friday, Rob Johnson officially becomes the first elected member to the Seattle City Council’s District 4 seat.

Since initial returns on Tuesday, Johnson, an urban planner and transit advocate from Ravenna, has held a substantial lead over Michael Maddux, a paralegal and parks activist who lives in Eastlake. The latest ballot counts late Thursday put Johnson ahead 53 to 47 percent.

Maddux issued a statement thanking supporters and conceding the race on Friday.

District 4 represents Northeast Seattle, including the University District, Wallingford, Ravenna, Eastlake, Laurelhurst and Sand Point neighborhoods.
