Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant is jetting all the way to New York City this weekend to drum up money for her re-election campaign.
Sawant will speak alongside journalist Chris Hedges and onetime Green Party candidate for New York governor Howie Hawkins at a fundraiser on the Upper East Side.
The event at All Souls Unitarian Church is sponsored by Occupy Wall Street and tickets are $15, according to the website where tickets are available.
Sawant’s campaign hopes people in the Big Apple for the annual political conference Left Forum will attend.

“She has a lot of supporters in New York who asked her to come,” Sawant campaign consultant Jeff Upthegrove said. “Left Forum is happening this weekend, so it’s a good opportunity … We believe there’s a substantial amount of money to be raised.”
Sawant is up against four challengers in the race for District 3, which covers Capitol Hill and the Central District. Her biggest fundraising rival has been Pamela Banks.
