With some cringe-worth singing, the politicians give it their best shot to promote electric vehicles.

Some cringe-worthy singing by Seattle politicians made its way into an announcement about electric vehicles Wednesday as Mayor Ed Murray and City Councilmember Mike O’Brien tried carpool karaoke while test-driving a Nissan Leaf.

“So I think they want us to sing. I think they want us to sing in this,” the mayor says about halfway through a dash-camera video of their drive. “How about a Beatles song?”

Murray and O’Brien then struggle through two lines of “Baby You Can Drive My Car.”

The stunt was tied to the mayor and council member proposing that Seattle’s new budget include money to install 20 new electric-vehicle charging stations across the city for the public and 150 new stations in the Seattle Municipal Tower for the electric vehicles that city employees use.
