A month before primary ballots are mailed, Jenny Durkan is the Seattle mayoral candidate with the most money in campaign contributions. Nikkita Oliver has the most donors.
With just a month left before primary-election ballots are mailed to Seattle voters, mayoral candidate Jenny Durkan is raising far more money than her opponents.
As of Tuesday, the former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, who entered the race May 11, had collected more than $190,000 in campaign contributions, according to the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission.
Cary Moonreported the second most in donations — more than $80,000. About half of Moon’s haul came from the candidate herself because the urban planner is matching contributions with her own money.
Educator and attorney Nikkita Oliver has raised more than $50,000, while Jessyn Farrell, who recently left a statehouse seat to focus on her mayoral campaign, has raised more than $45,000. Former Mayor Mike McGinnhas collected more than $27,000.
Of those five candidates, Oliver reported the most donors, 822. Durkan was second, with 758.
Oliver recorded the smallest average contribution, $57, and Durkan the largest, $252.
As of the end of May, Durkan had more than $115,000 cash on hand, the most of any candidate. Moon had more than $57,000 cash on hand.
State Sen. Bob Hasegawa, barred from raising money while the Legislature remains in session, hasn’t accepted cash contributions but has taken out a $6,000 loan.
Farrell was similarly barred until she resigned from the Legislature, effective June 1.
There are 21 candidates running for mayor.
Mayor Ed Murray raised more than $407,000 before ending his re-election campaign last month.
Independent-expenditure committees likely will get involved in the race at some point, but none have reported contributions so far.
Primary day is Aug. 1, and the top two vote-getters will advance to November’s general election.
