A 56-year-old woman died in North Seattle after she was struck and trapped under a van Tuesday night, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The Fire Department responded to Aurora Avenue North and North 85th Street around 9:20 p.m. The woman, identified as Connie L. Rodrigues by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, was found trapped under a Chevrolet Astro van and was declared dead, according to police.

Traffic collision detectives are investigating, but police said the 41-year-old man driving the van didn’t show signs of impairment. The man was driving southbound on Aurora Avenue North when he struck the woman, who was crossing midblock, according to police.

All lanes of Aurora Avenue North were closed in the area Tuesday night as crews responded. They have been reopened.

In the six months of 2019, there were 39 crashes involving pedestrians and cars that resulted in serious injuries or deaths on Seattle streets. Seven crashes that severely injured or killed people occurred on Aurora Avenue North, according to SDOT data.
