Years ago, Dorothy Oberto found a busload of senior citizens standing in her yard along Lake Washington. They thought they were in a park and had come to watch the Blue Angels perform.

Oberto invited them in and gave them lemonade. Five years later, the tradition has grown. Friday, Art and Dorothy Oberto — owners of Oberto Sausage Co. — opened their home to more than 100 seniors to watch the Blue Angels and enjoy a catered lunch.

The seniors were from Stafford Suites in Kent, Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle and EverActive MultiCare in Tacoma. Today, the Obertos will host another Seafair party for their employees, and on Sunday they host yet another gathering for family, friends and customers.

This likely will be the Obertos’ last year of such parties on the lake. They are retiring and plan to move.
