One person was killed early Sunday morning when a car crashed near Interstates 5 and 90 in Seattle.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a Honda Accord was exiting from southbound I-5 onto eastbound I-90 at about 3:13 a.m., traveling at a high rate of speed.

The car struck a jersey barrier, then a light pole. The vehicle careened off the roadway, hit a tree and came to rest under I-90. The car apparently caught fire after the crash.

The driver, who has not yet been identified, was the sole occupant of the car.

A portion of northbound I-5 was closed for several hours.
