LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Fire officials say two people jumped out of a burning apartment complex in Lakewood, Wash., to escape flames.
West Pierce Fire & Rescue officials say firefighters found the second floor of the Union Crest apartments in flames when they arrived early Monday morning. They say two residents had already jumped when crews arrived. One was taken to a hospital and was reported in stable condition. Three others reportedly drove themselves to a hospital.
KIRO-TV reports that the woman transported to a hospital was pregnant. The TV station says she tossed her young daughter to her husband before jumping herself. The station also reports that the woman’s family says she later had an emergency Caesarian section. KIRO says mother and new baby were reported doing OK Monday night.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
