WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) — An officer shot and killed a woman who broke into someone’s home in Warrenton and later brandished a gun at law enforcement, according to the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said in a news release that law enforcement agencies responded to a burglary Monday afternoon.
Someone called 911 and said an unknown woman walked into his house and barricaded herself in a room that had firearms, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with the woman, who authorities say fired a shot inside before making her way to the roof.
She then brandished a gun in an officer’s direction and the officer fatally shot her, the sheriff’s office said. She died at the scene.
No information about for which agency the officer works, of their name, or the name of the woman was immediately released. Her name will be released after her identity is confirmed, the sheriff’s office said.
The Clatsop County Major Crime Team will investigate with Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office as the lead agency.
