MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A McMinnville man who sexually abused a child was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.

Erick Munoz Diaz, 35, was sentenced by Yamhill County Circuit Court Judge Ladd Wiles after pleading no contest to three counts of first-degree sexual abuse last week, The Statesman Journal reported. Other charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement, court records show.

Munoz Diaz was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

In January 2020, McMinnville police officers responded to a report of Munoz Diaz inappropriately touching an 8-year-old girl.

The child received support from Juliette’s House, a local child abuse assessment center, and disclosed events in which Munoz Diaz had sexually abused her. Munoz Diaz soon after left Yamhill County and began working in Marion County under a fictitious name.

With help from the U.S. Marshals Service, police said Munoz Diaz was found and taken to Yamhill County Jail in April 2020.

In a motion filed by the state in July, Yamhill County prosecutors said another instance of child abuse involving Munoz Diaz had been reported in Marion County. Munoz Diaz’s plea agreement shows a “stipulated sentence” for a sex abuse charge in Marion County.
