ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 19-year-old Eagle River man is in state custody after a theft northwest of Wasilla in which a shot was fired, Alaska State Troopers said.

Everett McCormick was held on suspicion of robbery, assault, criminal trespass, theft and probation violation, troopers said. Online court documents do not list his attorney.

Troopers shortly before 3 a.m. Monday took a report of theft at a Wasilla home. The resident reported three people were trespassing and had stolen a wallet and a gun from a vehicle.

The resident confronted the suspects, troopers said, and one of them fired a gun toward the resident and a second person. No one was injured.

The suspects fled in a vehicle but crashed. They took off on foot, troopers said, and a Wasilla Police Department dog tracked McCormick, who was arrested. McCormick was on probation for a burglary count, troopers said.
