First responders resuscitated a man who was underwater for nearly 30 minutes after he and his car went into Lake Washington near the Mercer Island Boat Launch Tuesday morning.
Bellevue medics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center, and there was no immediate update on his condition, said Catherine Imboden, an Eastside Fire & Rescue spokesperson.
“That’s a really dicey thing after that long in the water,” Imboden said. “We were really thankful we were able to get some sort of pulse just to get him transported (and) to even give him a chance.”
Someone near the Bellevue shoreline facing the Mercer Island Boat Dock called 911 to report seeing a black sedan going into the water at 6:25 a.m. Eastside Fire & Rescue and first responders from Bellevue, Kirkland and Mercer Island responded and found the car underwater about 30 minutes later. Divers extricated the man shortly before 7 a.m., Imboden said.
Mercer Island police will tow the sedan out of the lake. It’s unclear why the car entered the water, Imboden said.
