A woman fatally shot an ex-boyfriend Friday in her Issaquah apartment, police said.

The woman, who called 911, was taken into custody, questioned by police and released after 4 p.m., according to Issaquah police Chief Paula Schwan. “She’s been completely cooperative,” Schwan said.

The Coalition of Small Police Agencies Major Crimes Taskforce is investigating.

Schwan said she didn’t know why the man was there or what kind of interaction he had with his ex-girlfriend, with whom he had lived on and off. The woman moved to Issaquah about a week ago and was not currently living with him.

Schwan said the man had not broken into the woman’s apartment.

Police were called to the apartment in the 2900 block of Northwest Steelrake Place about 10:25 a.m. Officers found the man, who was in his early 30s, shot in the stomach area, according to Schwan.

Medics tried lifesaving measures, but the man died at the scene, according to the chief.

Schwan said she could not release the man’s name because she didn’t know if relatives had been notified.
