Three people are dead after a shooting Thursday night in Newcastle, the King County sheriff’s office said Friday morning.

Deputies responded after a 911 call came in around 7 p.m. Thursday at a townhome off 129th Place Southeast, spokesperson Brandyn Hull said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating. No arrests have been made, Hull said, and no one else was injured. There is no concern for public safety, Hull said.

A splatter of blood marked the front window to the townhome unit in the otherwise quiet complex Friday morning. A lone hollow point bullet lay in the street.

Ilya Razenshteyn, who lives next door to the town home where the shooting took place, said he didn’t hear gunshots Thursday evening but smelled something like smoke. Law enforcement arrived soon after, he said.

Alex Gumina, president of the homeowners association, said a family of four – a husband, wife and their two sons – lived in the home and they mostly kept to themselves. Some neighbors said they would occasionally see the family outside.

He remembered the woman as “the nicest lady, super happy, super smiley,” Gumina said. He often saw her walking her sons to the bus stop.

Neighbor Cathy Dunbar said she left her keys at the mailbox one day and the woman and her young child brought them back to her.

Gumina said he was leaving to pick up dinner when police were arriving Thursday. Officers were stationed with rifles and began blocking off the area, he said, and by the time he came back, yellow “crime scene” tape had gone up.

Everyone in the neighborhood is shaken up, Gumina said.

“This type of thing doesn’t happen here,” he said.
