Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood Tuesday night, police said.

Officers responded about 9:30 p.m. to calls of shots fired near the intersection of 12th Avenue South and South Donovan Street and found the 20-year-old victim in the street, surrounded by other people, police said in a news release.

Witnesses told police that the man and several other people were driving in a car when the victim was shot, police said. There were conflicting accounts of a dark-colored vehicle being involved.

The King County sheriff’s air-support unit assisted police and said in a tweet that the suspect is believed to have left the scene in a vehicle.

Seattle police said gang detectives were on the scene and are  investigating.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Police said the man was recovering.
