The pursuit of a stolen car in Snohomish County ended in a fatal crash Monday night at the intersection of Highway 9 and Cathcart Way.

A 1994 BMW sedan was reported stolen at around 9 p.m. Monday from the 14600 block of 58th Drive Southeast in unincorporated Everett, according to Aaron Snell, a spokesman for the Everett Police Department. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted the car traveling eastbound on Cathcart Way, according to police.

Deputies and a Mill Creek police officer pursued the BMW. After crossing Highway 9, the car went off the road and caught fire. Officers tried to rescue the 19-year-old driver, but he died at the scene, Snell said in a news release. There were no passengers in the car, police siad.

The incident will be investigated by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
