Detectives are searching for the person who fatally stabbed a 20-year-old man in Seattle’s University District Wednesday evening, according to Seattle police.

Officers responded to reports of a stabbing in an alley in the 1500 block of Northeast 43rd Street around 7 p.m. The victim was found in an alley west of University Way Northeast and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Seattle Police Department.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man Thursday as 20-year-old John J. Miller. He died of a stab wound to the chest, according to the office, which ruled his death a homicide.

Detectives spoke to a number of witnesses in the area and will continue to investigate, according to police.
