A Metro bus driver unknowingly ran over a pedestrian Thursday afternoon near Mercer Street and Queen Anne Avenue North in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood, police said.
As the driver pulled away from a bus stop, he was unaware he’d run over a 53-year-old man standing next to the back end of the bus, Seattle police said. The man died at the scene.
The bus driver did not appear to be impaired, police said. Detectives will continue to investigate.
Thirteen pedestrians have been fatally struck by drivers in Seattle this year so far, according to preliminary data from the Seattle Department of Transportation. In 2021, 19 pedestrians were fatally struck.
