Ballard High School students were sent home shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday after reports of an armed student prompted a school lockdown and partial evacuation.

Police searched the school after the off-campus arrest of the male student who had reportedly been seen with a gun. The search was continuing although no weapon has been found.

When the boy was arrested Thursday morning near a Taco Bell restaurant in Ballard he was not armed, police said. However, “out of an abundance of caution,” police locked down the school and conducted the search.

Some students were evacuated from class and taken to the gym.
