An Auburn police officer shot and killed a man during a traffic stop early Wednesday, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Minutes before 2 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 100 block of Sixth Street Southeast in Auburn, according a news release from the Valley Independent Investigative Team. During the stop, there was an altercation “involving a firearm” between the man who was driving and a woman passenger, investigators wrote.
The officer then shot the man; the officer was not injured. He was placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure.
The man who was killed was identified as a SeaTac resident, 53.
Auburn police said it notified the Valley Independent Investigation Team of the incident. The team will investigate the incident with the Federal Way Police Department as the lead agency, Auburn police said.
