OLYMPIA — The head of Washington state’s troubled psychiatric hospital is leaving, less than a year after taking the job.

The Department of Social and Health Services announced Friday that Dr. Marylouise Jones is leaving her post as the interim CEO of Western State Hospital.

The agency says Jones plans to work for a private mental health provider.

Jones took over for Cheryl Strange in September 2017, after Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Strange to serve as DSHS secretary.

Strange took the job at Washington’s largest psychiatric hospital in 2016 after Inslee fired its previous CEO, Ron Adler.

Adler was fired as the 850-plus bed facility struggled to maintain accreditation and after two high-profile escapes from the hospital.

The agency says a new interim CEO will be named in the coming weeks.
