Kent police have questioned a 58-year-old woman in connection with a hit-and-run accident that sent a 12-year-old girl to the hospital this morning.

The woman has been released pending the completion of the police investigation and a review by the Kent City Attorney’s Office, according to police. If charges are filed, it likely won’t  be until next week, police said.

The girl was riding her bicycle to Mill Creek Middle School in Kent around 7:45  a.m. when she was struck by a car in the 900 block of North Central Avenue. The car and driver were gone when police arrived.

Witnesses gave police a detailed description of the driver and car, including the license number.

Investigators tracked down the owner of the car and he was able to identify the suspected driver, a family member, who was contacted at work, police said. She went to the Kent police station for questioning.

The injured girl was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries, police said.
