Daniel Lyon, the 25-year-old firefighter injured in a wildfire near Twisp, Okanogan County, in late August, underwent his sixth burn surgery on Monday, according Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg.

He remains in intensive care at the hospital’s burn center where more surgeries are planned, says a news release. The hospital has deemed his condition “serious.”

Lyon was hurt on Aug. 19 when he and three other firefighters crashed their vehicle down a 40-foot embankment, where they were overtaken by fire.

Killed in the incident were Richard Wheeler, 31; Andrew Zajac, 26; and Tom Zbyszewski, 20. They died of died of smoke inhalation and burns.

Lyon had burns that covered more than 60 percent of his body.
