MILL CREEK, Wash. (AP) — Human skeletal remains were discovered Saturday in unincorporated Snohomish County northeast of Seattle near Mill Creek, authorities said.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said in a news release Monday that someone found the remains in a shallow grave in a wooded area and reported it to police.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the location around 5 p.m. Saturday and continued to process the scene through Sunday, according to O’Keefe.

Positive identification of the person, as well as cause and manner of death will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
