The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash of the Robinson R22 light-utility helicopter.
Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a helicopter crashed into King Lake southeast of Arlington.
The helicopter had been in the air between 60 and 90 seconds just after 1 p.m. when neighbors heard strange sounds and called 911 before the helicopter crashed into the lake, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The passenger, a male, was able to swim to the shore, the Sheriff’s Office said. The male pilot was rescued by a neighbor. Both were transported by aid car to local hospitals, the pilot in critical condition and the passenger in serious but stable condition.
Aerial footage from a KOMO-TV helicopter showed rescuers providing medical aid to one of the victims at the scene.
