Sketched Dec. 28, 2014

Since the Seahawks aren’t playing this weekend, we can revisit Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams.

It ended well, but, oh, the nerves!

As I wandered into the “Hawks Nest” seats at the stadium’s north end, the score was still tied 6-6. It was the beginning of the fourth quarter and season-ticket holders Brandy Rhebeck and Jon Richardson, of Redmond, were upset. “Why are we not winning!??” asked an exasperated Rhebeck. Within minutes, though, the Seahawks scored two touchdowns to win the game, the division and a “bye” in the first round of the playoffs.

The victory meant Seahawks pyrotechnician Peter Zink could unleash the fireworks he had spent hours installing atop the Hawks Nest tower. I watched in awe as Zink activated some 40 charges from a remote control the size of a suitcase. “Boom! Boom! Boom!”

Let’s hope Zink gets to press those buttons again when the Seahawks return to Century Link Field on Jan. 10.
