Firefighters used a rope-rescue system to pluck two window washers from the 23rd floor of the CenturyLink Plaza building on Tuesday, according to Fire Department spokesperson Corey Orvold.

The window washers became trapped on a platform outside the building at Seventh Avenue and Olive Way when their equipment malfunctioned around 1:30 p.m. By 2:30 p.m., firefighters had rappelled from the roof to bring the window washers down to the ground.

Orvold said the cause of the mechanical failure has yet to be determined.
