Environmental Protection Agency chief Lisa Jackson will be the University of Washington’s commencement speaker June 9 at CenturyLink Field.

UW President Michael K. Young said it is especially fitting to have Jackson speak because the UW was named the greenest school in the nation by Sierra Magazine last fall. The UW also received a $40 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture last year to develop biofuels.

Jackson is a resident of New Orleans who began working for the EPA in 1987 as a staff-level scientist, and who as spent the majority of her career working in the EPA’s Region 2 office in New York.
