Hours before their contract was set to expire Thursday night, a committee representing University of Washington academic student employees has signed a tentative agreement with the university.
According to a release from the union representing the students, members will be voting on whether to accept the agreement over the next couple of weeks. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
UAW 4121, which represents 4,500 student employees – largely graduate students who teach undergraduate classes – reached an agreement with UW that provides for improvements in compensation, including mandatory student fees, and benefits, the union announced Thursday night.
The agreement also “creates a more equitable and inclusive campus environment,” said Elizabeth Mills, a member of UAW 4121 and a student employee.
