An overnight fire on Mercer Island severely damaged a West Ridge Road home, but no one inside was hurt, including a family dog rescued by firefighters.

Mercer Island Fire Chief Steve Heitman said his department received alerts of a structure fire in the 7200 block of West Ridge Road about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Emergency personnel from Mercer Island, Bellevue and multiple King County fire districts arrived at the scene minutes later and saw flames coming out of the garage and attic, Heitman said.

The residents of the home — a family of four — had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived, Heitman said. Firefighters retrieved the family’s dog, also unscathed, from inside the home.

The bulk of the fire was out by 4 a.m., Heitman said. Its cause is under investigation.
