A King County Metro bus caught fire while traveling north on Interstate 5 early Thursday near Tukwila, blocking two lanes of traffic.

The articulated bus had no passengers and was on its way to a Metro terminal when its back end ignited at about 1 a.m., said Metro spokesman Jeff Switzer. The driver of the bus was not injured.

The circumstances of the fire were not immediately available, but maintenance crews will investigate how it started, Switzer said.

The bus was towed from the scene after firefighters from Tukwila and Boeing Field put out the flames.
