The U.S. Department of Defense says a 45-year-old airman from Michigan has died while stationed in Southwest Asia.

The man, Lt. Col. Flando E. Jackson, was assigned to the Washington Air National Guard’s 194th Wing, headquartered at Camp Murray in Pierce County, according to a news release. He died on Thursday from a “non-combat-related” injury, the release says.

Jackson was stationed in Southwest Asia as part of what the department calls Operation Inherent Resolve, the mission to fight the Islamic State group, the release says.
