A man was critically wounded after being shot in the head Wednesday afternoon in Seattle’s Bitter Lake neighborhood, according to Seattle police, who are searching for a suspect in the shooting.

Gunshots were reported around 12:40 p.m. at a strip mall at Greenwood Avenue North and North 125th Street. Police believe there was an argument involving a man and a woman, and the man was then shot in the head by a third person, Capt. Eric Sano said at the scene. The shooter fled.

Police believe the suspect knew the victim, said police spokesman Patrick Michaud.

The man, who is in his 30s, was taken to Harborview Medical Center. He was in critical condition in the intensive-care unit Wednesday afternoon, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said.

The woman remained at the scene and was speaking with detectives.

Police searched for a suspect in the 1900 block of Northwest 89th Street in the Crown Hill neighborhood from about 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Police asked those in the area to stay indoors, and schools went under lockdown as officers searched the area with assistance from K-9 teams and a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Michaud said.

Officers will remain in the area as they continue to investigate, Michaud said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police tip line at 206-233-5000.
