Hawkins Middle School in Belfair, Mason County, had a false alarm of an active shooter on campus Wednesday.

The school went into lockdown after multiple calls to 911 reported a student with a gun and possibly shots fired in the school’s cafeteria and gym.

Sheriff’s deputies were at the nearby high school after a report of a student with a gun. While they were speaking to that student, 911 calls came in from the neighboring middle school.

“Our officers were already on campus at the high school for a student with a handgun,” said Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling.

About 75 officers from 15 agencies responded.

No gun was found, Spurling said. No one was taken into custody.

Initial reports indicated a high school student had been arrested for brining a gun to the middle school.
