BREMERTON — A man convicted of killing his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Michael David Holliday, 36, was convicted of second-degree murder in January for the death of Khayden Pangelian in June 2017, The Kitsap Sun reported Sunday.

Holliday plans to appeal the conviction.

Holliday’s attorneys argued at trial that medical records showed the child had preexisting medical conditions.

The infant was suffering from a blood clot and did not have marks or bruising on his body indicating he had been handled roughly while Holliday was babysitting at his Bremerton residence, defense attorneys claimed.

Evidence showed the child died as the result of an assault, prosecutors said.

Holliday told authorities he shook or jiggled the boy and splashed water on him in an attempt to rouse him before calling for help, court documents said.

The infant was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, where he died two days later.
