A driver struck and killed a woman who was walking in Kent Tuesday morning and fled the scene, according to Washington State Patrol.

Troopers believe the woman was hit around 5:15 a.m. while at a crosswalk at the 84th Avenue South on-ramp to southbound Highway 167, Trooper Rick Johnson said by phone. Other drivers reported seeing the woman lying in the middle of the on-ramp, Trooper Rick Johnson said.

The ramp was closed for about three hours and reopened at 8:35 a.m.

Washington State Patrol is investigating, and troopers are not yet aware of any witnesses to the incident taking place, he said.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said a man was killed, but Washington State Patrol has since identified the victim as a woman.
