Update 5/11/20: The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man as 20-year-old River Hudson and determined he died from gunshot wounds to the torso.
A man was fatally shot Wednesday night by Renton police, who were responding to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex.
Officers were dispatched just after 11 p.m. to the complex in the 1100 block of Sunset Boulevard Northeast, with reports that a person “was exhibiting erratic behavior,” according to a news release from the Valley Independent Investigative Team (VIIT), a group of investigators from police departments around King County that will investigate the shooting.
The officers who arrived found that a 20-year-old man had assaulted two family members, according to the release. They met him at the doorway to his apartment, where he was naked and holding a knife, the release said.
“As officers ordered him to drop the knife, he advanced on them still holding the knife,” the news release said. “The subject was shot as he advanced out of the home.”
Since the Renton Police Department was the agency involved in the shooting, their staff will not be part of the VIIT’s investigation.
